Well, that was one great hike!!

The sun was out, so we thought a long hike was what we should do. We headed up to L'Érigné by car (during the summer and winter seasons there is a free bus) and headed up to Col de Coux via Refuge de chardonnière. The refuge will soon be opening for the summer months and would definitely be an amazing place to stay. The Col de Coux is the boundary between France and Switzerland with amazing views on both sides. The 'ancien poste de garde-frontières' is still on the border and is soon to be transformed into a mountain cabin with 20 beds open to the public in autumn/winter 2024. Leaving Col de Coux we headed down to Ferme Auberge de Fréterolles and then to Lac de Mines d'Or. Work was being carried out at both Ferme Auberge de Fréterolles and the restaurant at Lac de Mines d'Or ready for opening for the summer season. A short work back down the road brought us back to our car. A great hike with amazing views and we had the mountains to ourselves for the most part!!

Stats:

Distance - approx 7.3 miles

Elevation gain - approx 2350 feet

Moving time - approx. 3 hours 30 minutes

Remember: when walking in the mountains, be prepared. The weather can change very rapidly!!
